systematic gender discrimination in India - Abortion of female foetuses
-Artwork Inspiration
A picture is worth a thousand words, is a proverb that refers to the idea that complex stories can be described with just a single still image.
Then i thought, will it be worth putting in efforts to make this proverb work the other way around? And i am happy to see the results, words may not be 1000 but they have created a very sensitive image that i wanted my concept to be based upon.
-Concept/Theory
9 precious months to motherhood, is an emotional story of a pregnant woman who is on the edge of loosing her unborn baby girl just because her husband/in-laws wanted her to seed a baby boy.
This is how the story goes (in her won words)
1.It took me 21 golden years to become a woman
2.I left my childhood memories, friends, relatives and parents with an ease to be yours forever and ever
3.It took me 1 unforgettable moment to be your soul mate
4.I seeded my belly with, hopes, care, dreams & love and looked ugly to make us proud parents
5.And now it is a baby girl, you don’t want us any more
“Right to Breed does not give you right to BLEED”
Think about it
-Concept Notes:
“Don’t kill your daughter. The government will raise her,”
-18 March 2007 - Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Renuka Chowdhury.
